Quiet Equations
Solo Exhibition by
Kathy Elliott
Opening Reception: July 18, 1 - 3 PM
Show Dates: July 18 - August 27, 2026
BLOC Gallery is pleased to present Quiet Equations, a solo exhibition by Texas based artist Kathy Elliott, curated by Mateja (Mattie) Lavelle with Curator & Co. Bringing together selections from six interconnected series, A Sense of Place, Drawing with Paint, Work on Paper, Small Paintings, Off the Grid, and Figurative Abstraction, the exhibition explores abstraction as a language of interior life, balancing structure and intuition, silence and gesture.
Working across canvas, panel, and paper, Elliott creates layered surfaces that feel both immediate and deeply considered. Through processes of painting, drawing, collage, and reduction, she constructs compositions that invite slow looking and sustained reflection. Visual forms emerge and recede, unfolding like open ended questions rather than fixed conclusions.
The title Quiet Equations reflects Elliott’s approach to art making: each work functions as a delicate balance of opposing forces, color and line, rhythm and stillness, presence and absence. Whether working with atmospheric abstractions, gridded systems, or subtle references to the human figure, her paintings resist easy resolution, encouraging viewers to engage with ambiguity, memory, and personal interpretation.
In a world saturated with constant information and distraction, Quiet Equations offers a space for contemplation. The exhibition highlights the power of slowness, the value of uncertainty, and the ways visual language can express what often remains unspoken.
